Calorifier Manufacturing Standards & Compliance

At World Heat Cylinders, we are committed to the highest levels of quality and compliance in the design and fabrication of all our hot water calorifiers and pressure vessels. Consequently, we adhere to a range of recognised industry and international calorifier manufacturing standards to ensure the safety, reliability, and performance of our products. Understanding these standards is crucial for specifiers and clients alike.

Key Manufacturing Standards We Adhere To

BS 853: Specification for Calorifiers and Storage Vessels for Central Heating and Hot Water Supply

BS853 is an internationally recognised British Standard specifically for calorifier construction. Whenever a client requests it, WH Cylinders manufactures calorifiers precisely to this standard. This ensures a defined level of quality and construction methodology. Furthermore, BS853 covers aspects such as materials, design, construction, testing, and marking of vessels. For more detailed information about the specifics of this standard and its application to your project, please contact one of our pre-sales technical design engineers. They will be more than happy to assist you.

Commercial Standards

In many instances, clients require calorifiers built to robust commercial standards that are well-established and widely used across the industry. These proven manufacturing standards, developed over many years, ensure a high level of durability and performance suitable for most commercial applications. Therefore, when BS853 is not a specified contractual requirement, WH Cylinders will manufacture your calorifier to these exacting commercial standards, balancing quality with practicality.

Pressure Equipment Directive (PED) 2014/68/EU

Compliance with the Pressure Equipment Directive (PED) 2014/68/EU is mandatory for relevant pressure equipment placed on the European market (and UKCA marking for Great Britain). WH Cylinders ensures that all applicable products we produce comply with the PED. Consequently, these products are CE marked (or UKCA marked where appropriate) as necessary, signifying their conformity to essential safety requirements.

PD 5500: Specification for Unfired Fusion Welded Pressure Vessels

Due to expansions within our technical department, we can now offer Design and Verification Services for vessels to PD 5500. This British Standard specifies requirements for the design, construction, inspection, testing, and verification of unfired fusion welded pressure vessels. For vessels that fall into PED Categories II and above, we typically recommend that clients design these vessels to PD 5500 Category 3 Form ‘X’.

The design verification process for such vessels is thorough. Firstly, a Notified Body (such as TUV UK Limited) verifies the design before manufacture commences. Subsequently, the Notified Body inspects both the vessel itself and the necessary documentation throughout the manufacturing stages and during final hydraulic testing. We can also make arrangements to include Radiographic Testing (NDT) at an additional cost if required by the specification or client.

The standard documentation package we provide as part of our PD 5500 offer typically includes items such as a Quality Plan, Material Certificates, Welding Procedures (WPS), Welder Qualification Records (WQR), Hydraulic Test Certificate, Form ‘X’ documentation, Declaration of Conformity, Certificate of Conformity from the Notified Body (NoBo), a General Assembly Drawing, and a copy of the Nameplate.

Our Commitment to Quality Assurance
